Hardcover first edition - Novel of labor relations in New York city, published just two years after her most popular novel, "In the Bishop's Carriage." . Illustrated with a frontispiece and 3 glossy lightly tinted color plates, plus one double page black and white wash drawing, by John Cecil Clay. This best-selling early 20th century novelist and journalist was born in Calaveras County in California in 1870. Her older brother, Albert Michelson was widely recognized as 'The Father of Theoretical Physics' and who, in 1907, became the first American scientist to win a Nobel Prize, and whose work in measuring the speed of light inspired Albert Einstein. 339 pp.

    Condition: Very good in green cloth with floral and oak leaf decorations in gold and white, on both the cover and spine (gift inscription dated Christmas 1919, minor wear to the covers, some general edgewear to the covers, front hinge starting).
