Hardcover first edition - This novel of a young man returning from World War I with a gift of diamonds from a dead soldier was the first one by this Australian author to be a best-seller in the US, going through 10 printings by Minton, and more by Burt. Suzanne Edgar sums up Rosman's appeal: '[she] provided the frisson of romance, laced with malice, for those many women between the wars who lacked fulfilment.' 297 pp.
