Graphically written it begins with a brutal scene of a small band of wild horses killed simply for their hides - the sole surviver was a young colt, grazed on the neck by a bullet - hence his name later on a stallion. Notable for the illustrations by Herbert Stoops, who was known for his old West drawings and especially his pictures of horses which capture their power and beauty.
