Hardcover - An early printing of this classic (and immediately popular) novel of a half-Indian girl in southern California, a story of injustice and sorrow - and a book with enduring appeal. In the 50 years after it was written, it had gone through 141 printings and was the basis of three movies, one play, etc. 490 pp plus a 7 pp illustrated essay on "Ramona's Home, A Visit to the Camulos Ranch" by Edwards Roberts, reprinted from the San Francisco Chronicle, a one page listing of Jackson's writings, and 11 pp of publisher's ads.
Condition: Very good overall in red cloth with gilt lettering and illustration on front cover - some wear to the ends of the spines, fading to the lower edge of front cover, both hinges cracking but still a sturdy copy with a certain vintage appeal. Gift inscription dated Christmas 1892.
