SIGNED hardcover first edition - A collection of poems written by the author over his long life - he was born in Oklahoma in 1894 and placed in an orphanage at 5 when his mother died, in 1915 working on a large spread in Pueblo Colorado he met his wife, the boss's daughter. This book is dedicated to her - with the notation that some of these poems had been written as early as 1918. An interesting association copy INSCRIBED on the title page to the well-known advice columnist "Miss Abigail van Buren with enthusiastic admiration." Many of these poems have 2 or 3 lines of handwritten comments after them - and underneath the poem "I Have Done What I Could" he added "Dear Abby, I offer no apologies for the contents of this little book - for I did my very best, I am still writing and trying to improve." On the bottom of the last page, and on the final blank page are two more handwritten poems. A charming, very personal copy, of these reflections on life. 55 pp.

Condition: Very near fine in cream boards with a dark brown cloth spine in a like near fine gold dustjacket.
