At the time when these books first appeared, Anna Chapin Ray was compared to Louisa May Alcott in her understanding of young people. Illustrated by Ellen Bernhard Thompson with a frontispiece with a tissue guard and five inserted glossy plates. Although this only shows the copyright date of 1902, the ads list through the sixth Sidney book (1910) 289 pp plus 2 pp publisher's ads.
