After a dispute with Izzi's previous publisher, Bantam, became contentious an unusual agreement was reached: Izzi could not publish under his own name for three years - and so he adopted the pseudonym of Gaitano. This was the final novel he wrote under those terms - and ironically, his last novel to be published during his lifetime.
