#1 – TRIXIE BELDEN: THE SECRET OF THE MANSION New York: Random House, (2003.) Hardcover. Trixie is lamenting being stuck in Sleepyside all summer, until a rich girl moves in next door, a runaway kid hides out, and rumors float that the old mansion on the hill has a fortune hidden in it. After almost 20 years of being out of print, this is a brand new hardcover edition of the first book in this popular series, with new cover art by Michael Koelsch, but the original illustrations by Mary Stevens. Still the original story – with only very minor changes like substituting “Moms” for “Mother” occasionally. 263 pp. plus 1 p publisher’s ads,. Fine in glossy illustrated boards (as new) 68678 12.50

#2 TRIXIE BELDEN AND THE RED TRAILER MYSTERY. Racine, WI: Whitman, (1954) Early printing in the ‘cello’ or cellophane format. The second book in the series, in the second format, illustrated with duotone drawings by Mary Stevens (the drawings used for this format varied from those used in the original edition, more were added, some were replaced, and color was added to the background.) Lists 5 titles at back of book. Thicker format, in the snapshot endpapers. 282 pp. Bright wraparound cover illustration. Very good condition in cellophane covered boards. Copies bound in these ‘glossy’ covers are becoming harder to find because of the fragility of the binding. TRIXIE BELDEN: THE GATEHOUSE MYSTERY, #3. Racine, WI: Whitman, 1984. Trade paperback. Square illustration on front cover. While not as well known as Nancy Drew, this is many girls’ favorite series: Trixie is a real girl, with chores, school to attend, a little brother to babysit – but lots of adventures! This is a reissue in a new fomat (the last one used for this series) which was introduced in 1984 and only used for 2 years, and so is much less common than the ones with the oval illustration. They had a different design on the cover (the ‘square’ format picture); the last 5 titles appeared only in this format, and not all of the earlier titles were issued like this. A reissue in a new fomat (the last one for these books) introduced in 1984 and only used for 2 years. After publishing several new titles in 1980, there was a gap of 4 years, and then over the next 3 years only 5 new titles were produced before the series ended in 1986. These last 5 titles had a different design on the cover (the ‘square’ format picture) and were illustrated with drawings – and many of the earlier titles were also produced briefly with this format.
