SIGNED first edition - An early book by this writer and educator who was associated with the Harlem Renaissance, an account of the too-brief life of Juliette Derricotte, educator and activist, based on information from her close friend Juanita Sadler. Includes letters by Derricotte and anecdotes from her childhood, accounts of her travels around the world as a representative of the YWCA, of her time as dean of women at Fisk University and her tragic death in an automobile accident. Since she was a Black woman she was not taken to the nearby whites-only hospital, and she did not survive the long ambulance ride to Chattanooga. Brief preface by Max Yergin. INSCRIBED inside…
