SEEN IN THE HADHRAMAUT.
Edition: First US printing.
New York: Dutton, 1939. Hardcover first edition - An early work by this pioneering travel writer - In 1934, Freya Stark travelled down the Red Sea to Aden, hoping to trace the frankincense route of the Hadhramaut (mostly now in Yemen), the hinterland of Southern Arabia and an area very few Western explorers had visited. She published her account of the region in three books, The Southern Gates of Arabia: A Journey in the Hadhramaut (1936), Seen In The Hadhramaut (1938) and A Winter in Arabia (1940). This, the second book, is primarily a pictorial record of that journey with only a brief introductory text and illustrated with 130 plates from Stark's photographs. Includes a map of the Hadhramaut by Hawes on green paper. xxiii, 199 pp.
