SIGNED hardcover first edition - An account of a trip by camel into the Sahara to climb the Hoggar mountains of southern Algeria, joining a caravan to Tamanrasset, where the Touareg nomads gave her the name of Tamrart Ð meaning dominant female. Illustrated with drawings by Lily Hamlin. Although Clark's career as a writer was eclipsed by that of her husband, Robert Penn Warren, her writing, and especially her evocative travel accounts, have been highly praised. Clark and Warren were the only couple where both were awarded the National Book Award for separate works.
