Hardcover - A history of the unprecedented land boom in the years following the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1876 - when the rate war between railways reduced fares from Kansas City to one dollar, and tourists and prospective settlers swarmed in from most of the United States and many countries of Europe. The city of Los Angeles was the center of the boom and saw its size increased by 500 percent, while many new suburban towns, such as Inglewood, Monrovia, and Glendale were incorporated.
