    THE SODDY.

    Edition: First printing.

Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page & Co., Inc., 1912. dj. Hardcover first edition - First novel by this young writer the story of a young couple, pioneers living in a sod house in the plains of Kansas or Nebraska. When this was first published, the NY Times review called it a work of much originality and realization of the spirit of places, conceived with understanding and executed with craftsmanship. An 1896 graduate of Stanford University, Comstock moved to New York City where she became a free-lance writer with much of her work examining social issues. 370 pp

Condition: Very good in decorated brown cloth (binding cracked just before the title page), in a poor dust jacket with large chips to the front cover, and missing approximately 1 1/2 inches at the top of the spine, price-clipped. Still the dust jacket is basically "all there" and it did protect the covers of the book so the gilt lettering and the little sod house on the front cover are still bright and attractive.
