Hardcover first edition - A rather lightweight romantic novel, but one in which the most essential part of Darcy's transformation is based on going through a tough physical training regimen. First publication of this novel, which was based on the short story "Enter Darcy" which in turn was made into a silent film in 1919 starring Billie Burke. A facsimile of a letter from Burke is reproduced on the back cover of the dust jacket. Even his publisher was skeptical of this novel, calling it a "diverting little story which I imagine you have written 'with your tongue in your cheek' as it were" (it went on to sell over 13,000 copies).     Condition: Very good in light green cloth with darker lettering in a fair only white illustrated dust jacket with several tears and some small chips. Dust jacket now protected by an archival cover.
