TRILBY.
Edition: First edition.
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1894. Hardcover first edition - Originally published as a serial in Harper's Magazine in 1894, this went on to be one of the best selling novels of its time, with over 200,000 copies sold in the US alone. A story of Bohemian life in 1850s Paris, this novel is most remembered for the character of Svengali, who uses hypnotism to turn Trilby, a tone-deaf artist's model into a diva.
