  • THE SECRET JOURNEY. by Hanley, James (1897-1985)
    Hanley, James (1897-1985)
    THE SECRET JOURNEY.

    Edition: First US printing.

New York: Macmillan, 1936. Hardcover first edition - The second novel in Hanley's Fury saga. This focuses on Fanny FuryÕs borrowing activities and, in particular, around Anna Ragner, the moneylender from whom she has borrowed extensively. Mrs. Ragner is ruthless in her business dealings but she makes one exception and that exception is Fanny Fury. The reason for FannyÕs debt is made clear here Ð it is to pay off the schooling of her son, Peter, despite the fact that he has been thrown out of the college. Although Hanley wrote some 50 novels and books he is one of the great neglected writers of the twentieth century. 569 pp.

Condition: Very good in red cloth with gold lettering on the spine (a few light spots of foxing to the fore-edge of the text block), no dust jacket.
