Hardcover first edition - A locked room mystery with a twist: a scientist under observation in a sealed room is killed during an experiment in a laboratory where a research team is studying electroencephalography. The author's only novel, this was published posthumously under the pseudonym "Willard Rich" a few weeks after its author, William T. Richards, took his own life. Although the setting was moved to the Boston area, this novel was a thinly veiled account of the secret laboratory founded in New York by Alfred Lee Loomis, and nicknamed "Tuxedo Park." Loomis went on to establish the MIT Rad Lab and later was instrumental in setting up the Manhattan Project. When this novel appeared, Loomis threatened to sue, and Patty Conant, Richards's sister, urged her husband, Harvard President James B. Conant, to recall all the copies (although he apparently refused to do, this is still a remarkably scarce book) 244 pp. Dust jacket by by Cobbledick.
