First US printing of this novel of provincial life, set on Jersey island and the Lannion coast, originally published in 1893 (and which was filmed as a movie in 1914 in France under the original title of Madame Corentine). A good example of a decorative binding from the early 20th century - bound in blue cloth with white lettering, black horizontal lines, and a band of white flowers along the fore-edge of the front cover. 290 pp.

    Condition: Some rubbing to the lettering on the spine, previous owner's name, but otherwise very tight and overall very good. Uncommon, and especially so in this condition.
