A two-color frontispiece drawing by the cartoonist Otto Soglow, and three-color cartoon illustrations on the endpapers. 257 pp.

    Condition: Near fine in blue cloth boards with a little illustration blocked in gilt, with a beige cloth spine with gilt lettering, top edge tinted red in a very good dust jacket with the usual stylized art deco design used by the Literary Guild (previous owner's name, a few small chips to the upper edge of the dj)

First edition - Athough "fireless cook stove" sounds like a contradiction in terms, this early precursor to the crockpots (except that it used retained heat from boiling water, etc, instead of electricity) was one of the few early 20th century innovations that actually enabled women to get out of the kitchen and still serve a hot meal later. This booklet includes a 4 pp of general instructions, some pictures of the roaster and 20 pp of recipes plus 3 blank pages for memorandum. Measures just 6 3/4 inches tall, 4 1/4 inches wide, unpaginated.

    Condition: Near fine in tan stapled wrappers, with black lettering and decoration on front cover (light crease to cover)
