Hardcover first edition - An account of the early days of Nevada gaming - the home-grown variety which sprung up in the small mining towns after gambling was legalized in 1931. Douglass, who recounted his story to his son, a professor involved in Reno's oral history program, began his career in Tonopah in the 1930's and eventually wound up as owner of the Cal-Neva, so his story spans the development from the simple slot machines (his primary business was the Nevada Novelty Company) to the growth of the large casinos.
