Set during World War II, this is the story of a group of boys in a New England sea-coast town, who belong to the Emergency Service Corps of the Boy Scouts. "Mr. Otis, a neighbor, seems quiet and friendly, but after a tanker is wrecked right off the beach, and strange doings the night of the black-out, and the appearance of a rubber boat on the shore, and other queer happenings, it turns out that he is a vicious spy." Illustrated by Edward Caswell. 260 pp.

    Boston: Lee & Shepherd, 1905 (c 1898). Hardcover - Author and artist's first book and apparently his most popular title. Like all of his book, this is illustrated with his drawings - in this case, there are 35 illustrations ranging from full pages to chapter headers and footers and decorative initials. Parker was born in New Jersey, but married and worked most of his life in Kansas - this adventure story for boys is set in Indian territory in the West. All four of Parker's books seem to be very hard to find in the original editions. 335 pp plus13 pp publisher's advertisements.

    Condition: Poor condition, reading copy only ( some penciled scribbing on the front endpapers, both hinges cracked, rubbing and wear to the covers, corners bumped, etc)

Forster. 272 pp. Laid in is a mimeographed single sheet folded of tan paper with the front cover announcing "Howard Pease Day, July 27, 1961, Palo Alto, California, and a mimeographed half sheet with the lyrics for a song in Pease's honor. . The schedule for the day appears inside with Pease giving a speech "My adventures become your books." Signed books by Pease are fairly uncommon, even without this scarce bit of ephemera.

    Condition: Near fine in a very good dustjacket (some toning to the front endpaper, edgewear to the dj, with a few small chips at the top of the spine) .
