Although the author says she was born in the flatlands of southwest Georgia, she was drawn to the mountains where her grandmother was born and this collection contains narrative poems written in the fictional voice of a woman around the early 1900s, inspired by the ballads and the lives of the Blue Ridge mountain women in North Carolina.
