Hardcover - The first novel by this American freelance journalist and writer - who had been (according to a review in Time Magazine) "a steamfitter's helper, chimney sweep, furnace repair man, electrician, detective, a knockabout journalist from Buffalo to Seattle" as well as the author of short stories for the pulp magazines. A selection of Farrar & Rinehart's series 'The Discoverers', with dust jacket praise from John Steinbeck, Josephine Johnson and others. Basis for the 1945 MGM film "Adventurer" starring Clark Gable (his first movie after World War II) and Greer Garson. 277 pp.

    Condition: Very good+ in tan cloth with dark blue panels and a small illustration on the front cover in a very worn dust jacket (book has discoloration to gutters from binder's glue, dj had loss at both ends of spine, rubbing, tape repairs. price-clipped.
