FIRST DOWN, KENTUCKY.
Edition: First printing.
Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1921. Hardcover first edition - A sports adventure story for boys, in which three boys from Texas go to a Christian School in Kentucky and help develop a winning football team. Very loosely based on the Danville, Kentucky Centre College football team of 1920-21 and their star Bo McMillan ('Bo McMurray' in the book): Centre College beat Harvard, 6-0, in a game described by the NY Times as "the upset of the century in college football." A good story but marred by casual racist comments scattered throughout. 348 pp.
Condition: Fair condition only (very worn covers, prev owner's name in pencil, but complete and easily readable).
