Although Lawrence's writing as a novelist has overshadowed his poetry, his influence on younger poets was considerable, and this volume selects the best of his poetry from his many different periods, including a group of poems from his novel 'The Plumed Serpent'. Also included is a long and thoughtful introduction by Kenneth Rexroth, the beat poet and a central figure in the San Francisco Renaissance; the jacket describes this introduction as "revolutionary in its interpretation of Lawrence's thought". An interesting association copy, boldly INSCRIBED by Rexroth on the front endpaper: "For dear Jim & Evelyn, 1948" and simply SIGNED Kenneth.
