An early version of this little booklet designed to promote the use of baking powder, still showing the original author as the compiler. "Rumsford Chemical Works, whose creator Eben Horsford pioneered the original commercial baking powder formula, produced their own cookbook in 1895. Newspapers around the country advertised a New Pastry Cook Book by Baltimore Cooking School principal L. A. Willis which could be obtained, for free, from Rumsford Chemical Works if you sent in a label ( your proof of purchase) from Horsford Bread Preparation (an early self-rising enriched flour). The first page depicts a red and black can of baking powder with the comment "'yeast powder' was the original term for a baking powder." Includes hints for using in baking, index to the many recipes, table of measures and more. A small tan softcover stapled booklet, with red and black lettering on front cover. Small hole punched in upper left corner so the booklet could be hung up for easy access. 47 pp plus final ad.
