WALK ME TO THE DISTANCE.
Edition: First printing.
New York: Ticknor & Fields, 1985. dj. SIGNED hardcover first edition - The second novel by this Black author (best known for his novel 'Erasure' the basis of the film 'American Fiction' and his highly praised 2024 novel 'James') His first novel was acclaimed as one of comic genius, but by contrast this novel, the story of David, a (white) returning Vietnam vet from Georgia who finds a home in on a remote ranch in Wyoming, is a quiet and satisfying story (although punctuated by an episode of extreme violence) "of the American Western landscape as it is today, clinging to a mythical heritage and a frontier code that may be seriously skewed in a world passing it by." SIGNED on the title page. Although Everett has received many awards - including an award for lifetime achievement by the National Book Critics Circle - and the Washington Post described him as one of the most adventurously experimental of modern American novelists. he still remains not nearly as well-known or read as he should be. That situation is finally changing with his award winning 2024 novel "James." Uncommon in the first edition and especially so signed and in this condition. 209 pp. ISBN: 0-899193218.
