THE ILLEGALS.
Edition: First printing.
New York: Stein & Day, (1978) dj. Hardcover first edition - A report on the status, living conditions, and attitudes of the thousands of Mexican laborers who illegally enter the United States each year in search of a better life. The dust jacket notes that before this century (the 20th), all Americans were legal immigrants; by 1978 there were more illegal immigrants in the US than legal ones. As she did in her best known book "Soul Sister," Halsell went undercover to investigate what is happening - she swam the Rio Grande, crawled under a border fence, and worked in the fields. Since this was written, the situation has only become much worse, even as the US relies on the labor of these undocumented immigrants. Illustrated with a map and photographs. 216 pp. ISBN: 0-812824644.
Condition: Ex-library with the usual markings, slight spine slant, in a very good dj (price-clipped, spine label)
