The table of contents lists the items in chronological order, ranging from many early medieval works, some anonymous, to Dean Swift, Ben Johnson and Shakespeare and moving into the more modern era with Hilaire Belloc, Alice Meynell, G.K. Chesterton, Edith Sitwell, and others. With in-text illustrations and music transcriptions by A.C. Harradine, as well as a full color frontispiece. Condition: Very near fine in a deep purple cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front cover, vignette on front cover in a very good dust jacket (some wear to the ends of the spine of the dj, with discoloration to verso from old tape reinforcement) Scarce in the first edition and in dust jacket.
