MACHINERY.

Edition: First printing.

New York: Horace Liveright, 1929. Hardcover first edition - This controversial young poet's first book (and, with his early death at age 34, the only one published during his lifetime). At the time, his writings about machinery and man were questioned as unfit subjects for poetry, but now when science and technology are once again upon us raising questions about the quality of life and the meaning of work, his lyrics could be considered as timely today as they were prophetic at the time when they were first published. A poetry prize in his honor is awarded each year by Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. 88 pp.

Condition: Very near fine in black cloth with silver lettering (bookplate), no dustjacket.
