SEVEN SCARED SCARECROWS.
Edition: First printing.
Paris: Art & Film Publication, 1968. First edition - An anti-war poem by this artist who was born in France of Yugoslavian parents, but who trained in Belgrade and lived for many years among the peasants in the mountainous regions of Yugoslavia. He is known for his style which is both child-like and adult; "a style that tells a story with psychological, philosophical or sociological overtones." Each of these scarecrows give their impassioned arguments in favor of war - until a crow's nest is being washed away and they all band together to rescue the babies and restore them to their distressed mother - and then the seven ex-scared scarecrows realize there is a better way "Among us and all others there will be no war anymore!" Illustrated by Lazar J. Obican. Includes an introduction by Sir Herbert Read from 1960. Also contains information on Jovan, with a list of collectors of his work. The final page includes small drawings a dozen more scarecrows. Large format, unpaginated (32 pp) in illustrated cardstock covers.
