THE DIARY OF A 49ER.
Edition: First thus- a trade paperback.
Redmond, OR: High Grass Publications, (1999). A facsimile reproduction of a work originally published in 1906, purporting to be the diary of Alfred T. Jackson, who came from Connecticut in 1849. This covers the period from from May 1850 to May 1852, where he was mining on the banks of Rock Creek in Nevada County, California. Includes a lot of detail about the actual process of mining - sluices, long toms, and flumes more - as well as the events occurring in the rough and ready camps - in reality this is a blend of fiction and facts, based on accounts told to Canfield by an old miner, and his research into newspapers of the time. 231 pp. ISBN: 0-967256100.
Condition: Very near fine in illustrated wrappers.
