While in Switzerland on a ski vacation, Love first discovers a body of a man shot on the slope, and then is asked for help by the Nawab of a country high in the Himalayas on the border of China, a man with whom he had served in Burma, whose son has been partially blinded by a laser, and threatened with permanent blindness, if ransom demands are not met.
