THE CHINABERRY TREE.
Edition: First UK printing.
London: Elkin Mathews & Marrot: 1932. Hardcover first edition - Third novel by this influential Harlem Renaissance writer - considered the first 'modern' African American woman novelist, editor of 'The Crisis.' Introduction by Zona Gale and a foreword by Jessie Fauset. This book is known in two English bindings, a blue and a light green. While no definite priority has been established, the blue binding bulks slightly thicker than the light green and has a stylized EM logo on bottom on spine , an argument can be made that the blue would be priority A. Certainly the blue binding is the more attractive version. x, 310 pp.
Condition: Good overall - some wear to the covers, toning to the spine and to the pages, offsetting to the endpapers, corners slightly bumped - but a tight and sturdy copy.
