New York: W.L. Allison Co., (1894). SIGNED hardcover first edition - Two romantic short novels in one volume. SIGNED by the author opposite the title page under this comment "If to err is human, to forgive divine/ Pass lightly over the many faults/ in this littlle book of mine!" The inscription is fairly faint, but still legible. The first novel includes a case of mistaken identity, a visit to the Everglades, and a deliberate attempt to kill the heroine by giving her a scarf infected with yellow fever. Despite the title of the second novel, it is set mostly in New York City or in Paris. Mediums and hpynotism make brief appearances. 143, 107 pp.

Condition: Good overall in brown embossed cloth with gilt lettering on front cover and spine - one corner bumped, toning to pages, rear hinge cracking, but still a sturdy and easily readable copy and uncommon signed.
