Hardcover - An attractive early copy of the first book in Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic Anne of Green Gable series, about a red-haired orphan who is adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert on Prince Edward Island off the eastern coast of Canada. It is a measure of how popular this was that this, the 33rd US printing, was just 4 years after the first. Illustrated by M. A. & W. A. J. Claus with a glossy frontispiece with tissue guard and 7 internal glossy black and white plates. 429 pp plus 8 ppof publisher's ads at rear.
Condition: Very good in pale pink/beige cloth with gilt lettering and a pasted on illustration (previous owner's name, some soiling and wear to the covers, scratching to the illustration and rubbing to the lettering, but overall a tight and sturdy copy)
