Hardcover first edition - The sixth and last book in this series, one of several very popular series of books for young children written by Frances Barrow under the name "Aunt Fanny." Illustrated with two plates and one other engraving. The phrase ""Shoot folly as it flies" appears on the title page of each volume and the rather remarkable en-texte illustration of a woman firing a gun at four defiant children, while one child lies on the ground, another is falling to the ground and two others are clinging to her skirts, is also used one of more times in each volume although the phrase on each varies (in this it is "do as you would be done by." (p 20) One of the two plates is used as the frontispiece rather than opposite p 48 as the list of illustrations indicates.Small format. 160 pp plus 8 pp of publisher's advertisements.

Condition: Good condition in stamped dark green boards with gilt decorations and titling on the spine. Previous owner's name dated 1865 on title page. Some wear to the corners and ends of the spine, scattered light foxing throughout, but mostly in the margins. Reprinted many times, this is uncommon in the first edition.
