Edition: First printing.
New York: M.S. Mill Co. & William Morrow Co., 1956. dj. Hardcover first edition - Classic and edgy mystery -opens in Los Angeles and featuring Pete Baylis, ex-Air Force Major and sometime private eye - described on the dustjacket flap as a 'cockeyed, throat-catching adventure that races through a score of ingenious complications -introduces you to a couple of corpses, a dope fiend, a lame canary...' The third and final hard-boiled novel published under this pseudonym.
Condition: Very near fine in a very good- dustjacket (fragile dustjacket has a long tear down the spine and at the fold of the dj flap, price-clipped, but now in a new archival cover - and the very 50's dustjacket art by Alice Kirkpatrick is bright and attractive.)
