Edited with introductory notes by Ella Winter and Granville Hicks with a memorandum by Carl Sandburg. Steffens, born in Sacramento, CA, Steffens traveled widely to Germany, Austria, Italy and more - he began his career as a newspaperman in NYC - and was probably the most influential "muckracker" of his era. His letters are literate and thoughtful. Illustrated with photographs.
Condition: Ex-library, but very minimal markings (small stamp on ffep). Spines are faded, but overall very good condition. 2 sturdy volumes, total pages 1032.
