He chose to visit Africa because he thought it was the 'crossroads of the world' and 'possibly the place where the future of mankind will be decided.' He expresses strong anti-apartheid sentiments, describes visiting the site of the Sharpeville massacre, the pro-Nkrumah sentiment in Kenya, as well as discussions of the history and customs of Africa.
